What's new in Sole Studio
1 July 2026 - V2.3 - Fidelity
More Lifelike Recolours
Recolour and material finishes now read truer to life. Leather looks like leather, suede softens, patent gleams, and metallic catches the light the way it should — straight out of the box, no fiddling. And when you do want to steer the look, the controls are simpler: two clear sliders — Depth and Shading — take the whole surface up or down together, so dialling in the feel you're after is quick instead of finicky.
Crisper Auto Layouts
Auto Layout results come out cleaner and sharper. We refined how each shoe is lifted from its background, so the edges are crisp — no soft halo, no jagged outline, no clipped stitching. Whether you're laying out a single shoe or letting a whole group arrange itself, everything lands looking tidy and true to the original.
27 June 2026 - V2.2 - Workspaces
Switch Workspaces in One Click
If you belong to more than one organisation, you can now move between workspaces straight from the sidebar. And if someone moves you into a different workspace while you're working, the app catches up on its own — no refresh, no blank screen, no losing your place.
21 June 2026 - V2.1 - Launch
Say Hello to the New Sole Studio
We rebuilt Sole Studio from the ground up. The canvas is dramatically faster — whether you're zooming into stitching, dragging a dozen frames at once, or recolouring a whole material. Everything you already love is right here: recolour, fusion, material finishes, collections, the recipe panel, compose and export, and your asset library — plus all the canvas moves you know. Just quicker, smoother, and wrapped in a fresh new look and typeface throughout.
To try it, open your profile menu and choose "Try the new version." A quick welcome shows you around. Prefer the classic version for now? "Back to classic" is always one click away — switch back whenever you like.
Recolour in Canvas
Recolour right on the canvas — no separate editor to bounce out to. Pick a starting point from the Overlay, Preset, and Library tabs, drag a swatch straight from your library onto a region, flip into the new Realistic view with a single toggle, and wipe the slate with one "Reset all colours" button.
Save Your Prompt Recipes
Found a prompt setup that works? Save it as a recipe and bring it back any time from the prompt bar — keep it to yourself or share it with your team, so a strong starting point is always a click away.
Every Design Gets a Name
Frames now show an editable name instead of an ID — and we'll name new ones for you. Uploads, rotations, recolours, and fusions all arrive with a sensible name, ready to change anytime.
Work in Sections
Duplicate a whole section — with ⌘D, copy-paste, or Option-drag — and everything inside comes along, layout intact. Sort a section's contents by name, newest, or type, export the whole framed section with its title at up to 8K, and mirror its shoes into a linked collection.
Copy, Paste, Duplicate
The shortcuts you'd expect now work on the canvas: ⌘C / ⌘V to copy and paste frames, ⌘D to duplicate, and Option-drag to peel a copy straight off the original.
Type Right on the Canvas
Add text with the new text tool and edit it live — every keystroke previews directly on the canvas, with no edit card flashing over the top.
Design for the World Cup
We opened a special World Cup canvas where guests can jump in and design without signing up. Pick up a one-of-a-kind name, keep an eye on your remaining generations at a glance, and create alongside everyone else on a shared canvas.
16 June 2026 - V2.0 - Variations
Spin Off New Variations
Like where a design landed? Click any result to branch new variations from it — Iterate to nudge one or two things, Explore to head somewhere unexpected, or Retry for a fresh take on the same idea. New tiles appear straight away and fill in as they're ready.
Sharper Rotations
Turn a shoe to a new angle and it holds together far better than before. The new rotation keeps your design's identity — its shape, its details, its materials — so a different view still reads as the same shoe, not a reinterpretation.
26 May 2026 — Group Gallery Mat Layout
Groups as Gallery Mats
Group your shoes and they settle into a tidy gallery — each one sized to fit, arranged on a clean mat. Dragging, resizing, and organising a group is simpler and more reliable than ever.
8 May 2026 — Sharper Downloads & Smarter Recolor
Aspect Ratios + 4K Downloads
Pick the exact aspect ratio for your export — 1:1, 16:9, your source, or anything in between — and we'll handle the padding so your shoe sits perfectly framed. Choose any output size up to 4K, with optional AI enhancement that sharpens and upscales for print-ready quality. Layout, quality, and enhancement controls all live right next to the download button now — no more bouncing between modals.
Multi-Shoe Download Progress
Downloading a batch? Each shoe shows its own progress as it renders — especially handy when AI enhancement is on and exports take a few seconds per image.
Quick-Select Colour Pills
The recolor editor now surfaces your shoe's dominant colours as clickable pills. Click one to grab every region matching that colour at once. Recolouring a whole material drops from a hunt through layers to a single click — and the pills update live as you change colours.
Zoom Into the Details
Cursor-anchored zoom lets you dive into stitching, lacing, or sole details — and pan smoothly across the canvas. Cmd-scroll to push past the safe area for the closest look at your design.
6 May 2026 — Outline View & Download
Toggle to the Outline
In any recolor frame, click the eye icon to flip between your shoe and its underlying outline. Same drawing the AI uses internally to segment your shoe, now visible to you.
Download the Outline
Once you're in outline view, hit download. You get a clean line drawing of your shoe, ready to drop into Illustrator, Photoshop, or a tech pack. The technical drawing that used to take an afternoon, ready in one click.
3 May 2026 — Fix
Recolor Editor Styling Fixes
Massive improvement to the recolor calculation. Much better at retaining colors and textures.
30 April 2026 — Annotations & Extracts
Draw Directly on Your Source Image
When you write a prompt, you can now sketch on the image itself—mark where you want a strap, show the AI exactly where a logo should go. No more describing what you mean; just draw it. The AI reads your annotations and makes changes with precision.
Extract Parts with Speed & Clarity
No more AI-guessed extras. When you extract a shoe part for your library, we now grab the exact pixels from your source image using precise computer vision. Faster, cleaner, zero artifacts.
Simpler Tag Filtering
Browse your asset library by tag one at a time instead of juggling multiple filters. Click a tag, see all assets with that tag—click it again to clear and see everything.
30 April 2026 — Asset Library
Swatches + Assets, Together
We've merged the swatch library and asset library into a single home for all your design building blocks — materials, references, parts. Same place, more powerful, simpler to navigate.
Pull Materials and Parts from Any Shoe
See a material you love on a shoe? Now you can grab it. Right-click any shoe, choose Extract, and we'll pull out a clean material swatch or a labelled design part — ready to drop into your library and reuse on the next design.
Pantone Library
A built-in Pantone library is now at your fingertips. Browse, search, or paste hex codes — the closest Pantone match shows up so you can spec colours with confidence.
Request Multiple Variations at Once
When you submit a prompt, you can now request multiple design variations in a single call. Instead of waiting for one design, refining it, and prompting again—batch your variations together and get them all at once. Save time, explore more directions, and find your inspiration faster.
We automatically check that you have enough credits for all your requested outputs before you start, so you'll never be surprised by insufficient credits mid-generation.
Drag to Fuse
Drag a shoe from the canvas straight onto another and fusion kicks in immediately. No clicks, no menu hunting — just grab and drop.
18 April 2026 — Multi-select & Annotate
Select Multiple Frames
Click and drag to lasso multiple frames on the canvas, or shift-click to add them. Apply a prompt, change a material, or run a fusion across all of them at once.
Sketch Your Intent
A new annotation toolbar lets you draw and mark up your design before generating. Show the AI exactly where you want a strap, a stitch, or a logo — no need to describe it in words.
Recipes
Save the sequence of steps you used to create a design and replay it on any other shoe. Reuse your favourite workflows with one click.
Asset Browser Sidebar
Browse your full asset library from a sidebar while you're designing. Drag swatches and references straight onto the canvas without leaving your project.
13 April 2026 — Presets
Auto Layout Presets
Save your favorite Auto Layout settings — output dimensions, padding, alignment, and backgrounds — as reusable presets. Browse our Clearcut and Ecommerce templates, or create your own. Switch between layouts in one tap, and your entire design updates instantly.
12 April 2026 — Compose
Compose & Export
Set your output dimensions, padding, alignment, and background — then export a perfectly framed shoe ready for presentation. Choose transparent, solid colour, or a smart overlay that blends with the original background. Everything composites together — regions, materials, watermark — in one clean download.
Scrubby Inputs
Dimensions and padding now use Figma-style draggable inputs — hover and drag left or right to adjust values smoothly, or click to type a number directly.
10 April 2026 — Instant Design Feedback
Instant Frame Preview
Submit a design prompt and watch your frames appear on the canvas immediately — no waiting for the AI to finish. The sidebar closes, your frames render optimistically, and all the heavy lifting happens quietly in the background. When the AI completes, your design updates seamlessly.
3 April 2026 — Layout
Drag Shoes Between Projects
Working across multiple projects just got easier. Grab any shoe from one project and drop it into another — no more downloading and re-uploading. Your designs go wherever they need to.
New Project Toolbar
We've refreshed the toolbar with inline zoom controls, a cleaner breadcrumb for renaming projects on the fly, and quick-access to rotation and other tools — all without leaving the canvas.
Inline Swatch Editing
Tweak swatches without leaving your design. The new inline editor lets you adjust colours, materials, and settings right where you're working.
Fresh Canvas Look
The canvas background now features a subtle dot grid, making it easier to gauge spacing and alignment as you lay out your designs.
17 March 2026 — Upload Shoes & Guided Tips
Upload Shoes to Fusion
No more hunting for the perfect reference shoe. Drag a file directly onto the base or reference slots in your fusion sidebar — or click to browse. Now you can fusion with any image from your computer, instantly.
Milestone Tips
We've added subtle, contextual tips that appear as you use the app. They're designed to help you discover fusion, bulk prompting, and other powerful features without interrupting your flow. Completely optional — dismiss them anytime.
Performance Improvements
Faster rendering across the app, especially when working with multiple frames or large collections. We've optimized React selectors and added concurrency limits to prevent resource overload.
2 March 2026 — Drag Frames into Prompts
Reference Designs in Your Prompts
Drag any frame from the canvas directly into your prompt or fusion sidebar. The AI will see the actual design and use it as a reference. Perfect for "make it look like this" or "combine these two."
27 February 2026 — V1.05 Canvas
Undo & Redo
Finally! Hit Cmd+Z and Cmd+Shift+Z to undo and redo your canvas actions. Move a frame to the wrong spot, delete something by accident — just step back in time.
Paste Images from Anywhere
Copy an image from a file, a website, or your screenshot tool and paste it straight onto the canvas. No more saving and uploading — just Cmd+V and you're designing.
Attach Images to Prompts
Drop a reference image into your prompt — a material swatch, a competitor's shoe, an inspiration photo — and the AI will use it alongside your text instructions. Show, don't just tell.
Upgraded AI Model
We've upgraded our image generation engine. This powers all core design operations — outlines, styling, renders, and fusions — so everything you create should be faster, and more accurate.
18 February 2026 — V1.03 Feedback
AI Feedback Chat
You can now send us feedback directly from the app. Click "Send Feedback" in the sidebar or profile menu to start a conversation. Our AI assistant will help capture the details we need to improve your experience.
Knowledgebase
We've added a built-in help centre right inside the app. Browse guides on everything from your first project to fusion, recolouring, swatches, and team features — all without leaving your workspace.
Changelog
Wait.. that's me? I never existed before this point? So now users can see what we've been working on!
10 Feb 2026 — V1.02 Metadata
Design Metadata
Design prompts are now displayed in the side panel, making it easy to see what instructions produced each version.
Swatch Library Updates
Fill regions now start with 0% opacity by default, and region version filtering has been improved for more accurate results.
7 Feb 2026 — V1.01 Swatches
Mention Swatches in Your Prompts
Type "#" in any design prompt to reference swatches from your library. An autocomplete menu pops up with your saved materials and colours, and selected swatches appear as visual badges right in the prompt. It's the fastest way to tell the AI exactly what you're after.
Preset Swatch Library
We've added a curated collection of ready-to-use swatches — patent leathers, metallics, solid colours, and more. They're available to everyone out of the box, so you can start designing with premium materials from day one. Your custom swatches sit alongside them, and you can filter between the two.
